Germany Day 02

Breakfast, then checked out of first hotel as it was booked solid by German policemen for a convention this week. Found Ramada, booked 2 nights there. Headed out to find Cafe Bassler in the town square. Proprietors are no longer Basslers.

Drove over to Mussbach. Stopped at antiques store on edge of town, then eventually found cemetery after James Bond-esque drive around cliched-European supernarrow streets. Discovered many Bassler graves there, but even the one from Philipp (b. 1842) is surprisingly not Friedrich's own brother Philipp who was also born in 1842 ... go figure. Met local gent who spoke English and has relatives in Chicago - friendly and graciously answered many questions for us.

Back to hotel after drive south of Neustadt up into the hills, dinner, then German-dubbed Hasselhoff on Knight Rider on TV.

  1. I noticed title has changed from the Black Forest to German Wine Country, any new construction in Musbach? Everyone looks much more rested in today's photos. This blog is so much fun! Good job Ryan!
